It commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, TX, found out that they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation- two years prior! Freedom was delayed but not denied. Celebrating at the parade is the perfect way to get ready

This year’s theme, “Beloved Community,” honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of one’s fellow human beings.
